Starbreeze's 'P13' headed to XBLA, PSN, and PC
developer Starbreeze keeps a low profile. Having released two projects over the past five years, Starbreeze is not offering many constant reminders that still exist. President and CEO Mikael Nermark aims to change that, and his first two major projects are two games that you probably have not heard about:
P13 and aa cold Mercury
"We're trying to build four independent teams base," said Nermark in a telephone interview today. Beyond Starbreeze existing equipment, software newly acquired Overkill wil use one of these four teams. Thus, four "basic equipment", four projects. Aviation experts say prices, 52, is one of only a handful of people worldwide who have built their own flight simulator cockpit in a real airplane nose. "
Jesse Townley's Favorite Techdirt Posts Of The Week
a brief introduction: I am the CEO of Alternative Tentacles Records, a small basement, punk, emphasis, indie, and most left label is Jello Biafra of the property. One began in 1979 with the single of the Dead Kennedys. Not a member of the RIAA, A2IM, or any group of the music industry. My opinions do not represent those of Jello Biafra and other artists or staff. They are based on my experiences as a band member in several independent labels and working on a couple of labels, as well as being a DJ for 20 years at the local college radio station KALX Berkeley excellent. In addition, as CEO of a small label, I am very closely to technology - our site is very limited, but we have progressed to SoundCloud, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and do our best to maintain our reputation and our own faithful. Of course, in contact with the fans (FCF) and give them a reason to buy (RTB) has always been the rule in punk rock. Without your reputation, you are nothing. If your representative is sinking, you're a sellout, a has-been, and / or a crook. Of course there are always some ignorant players that support it, but the vast majority reject.
The first is a story of Big Picture, which is positive, a little Techdirt. If piracy is so devastating, why are we seeing an unprecedented outpouring of creativity? Tuesday. It is an important reminder that people are creating content and upload it to various social networks and platforms every second. But the bad part of this ringing in my ears prick up are the "copyright industries and cultural commentators" simplistic - and certainly a novel Twitter and YouTube are new webisodes, "real" content, but not an exaggeration to make a value judgment that my word after 10 Facebook is not as creative as, for example, the last album of their favorite band. (Beat that, it depends on how smart I am and what the band I love you [/ tangent]), even referring to an equivalence is a false note in another observer, thought-provoking post.
Another scenario is optimistic medium, medium-depressive - that is the Constitutional Court the right Yes, the sole purpose of copyright is to benefit the public . I'm quite a geek civic, have strong emotions about the Constitution and misunderstandings that bothers me the highest degree. (As you can imagine, my head hurts when I read about the latest attacks on the Constitution by Arizona sheriff particular, the Presidents of recent years, many people in Congress and many others.)
I would like the following paragraph should read for those who want to publish here:
"I find it hard to understand why so many people ... so difficult to separate for the purpose of the method. Yes, the article gives Congress create copyright - but for a purpose. " promote the progress of science "Nowhere is suggested, or even suspicion, the idea that copyright is intended to benefit the creators, but the method is to say that .. the protections of the author are greater than or equal to benefits for the nation, is a clear flip-flop of the method for this purpose. course, do not just flip-flops of the method and purpose, but it completely distorts the nature of maximalist positions of the right author and brings a style that gives the slightest consideration to the way public benefits (or, more importantly, is injured) from specific changes in the copyright. "
A quick post before going negative in the trash talk messages real-er, "[fill-in-the-blank] misbehave." It is related to the foregoing, it is international in scope, which I think is a major asset Techdirt - step by step on what is dominating headlines in the U.S. / North America and social media networks.
is summarized in the title, only because it is now cheaper and easier to spy on everybody all the time, does not mean that the governments should do! It is a good summary of a true "slippery slope" with the points where the slope metaphor, it might be slipping into a surveillance state stopped if people had realized what was happening, if supervision by government that was not the law: It can, could, did not.
(And that's exactly why my colleagues in the music industry "slippery slope" argument fails. They assume that there are no controls on the phenomena of possible slip technology to all free all the time as well as gross and government regulations ultimately useless The fact that artists and labels that I resist the RIAA and A2IM restrictive view of copyright is the key. - they must also earn their living as artists and small businesses in the distribution of creative works. We are not naive idiots and we are considering ways to keep our fans excited about our music and bands in the world in multiple formats.)
stories
Now, "[fill in the blank] Behaving Badly". Let's start w / government. A couple made me see red, partly because, like most Republicans are not rabid, had hoped to put a constitutional law professor at the White House would be enough to stop the destruction of civil rights after 9 Bush 43 / 11/01. Once again, vindictive administration accused a whistleblower as a spy is the kind of story that illustrates the key equivalence famous Ralph Nader Republicans and Democrats were correct. (Make no mistake, Gen. George W. Bush 43 was worse for civil rights, because he attacked the social freedoms and rights at work as well.)
This story is particularly frustrating because it goes after a courageous government employee who blew the whistle on torture damned practiced by our government. Guh.
defender of civil liberties, common sense in me, too bother with companies in New York Thurs convinces offenders registered sex story Kick Off Gaming Services. As a species, but we need to stop hyperventilating the worst of the worst and realize that, like the message, a sex offender can be a lot of people. Someone called the nude, drunk pissing in an alley (not me, I swear!) Or an artist whose work includes nudity, or a couple of teens with oral sex, or a young person who receives a naked picture of how your phone are all potential sex offenders, as is the local DA running for reelection. It kind of embarrasses any silly political posturing all actors and diverts attention from the best efforts of the Government (see: create jobs, feed the hunger crisis, the exclusion of the battle).

How Amazon finds tax loopholes
U.S. Map shows states in red, yellow or green to warn executives that the law could result in tax collection
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has always had a keen interest in tax planning. From the beginning, the differences were a key part of Amazon's ability to undercut rivals on price. When the establishment of the company, Bezos even considered it based on an Indian reservation near San Francisco to take advantage of tax loopholes in the state.
retailer in the world's leading Internet collects sales tax of only five states, taking advantage of a court ruling in 1992 that U.S. companies without a physical presence - like a store or warehouse - in a state can not be required to collect their sales taxes. Amazon has a map of each U.S. state of red, yellow or green. Executives who travel to the red states need the permission of the company before entering, if your actions trigger the laws that force Amazon to collect taxes not.
Amazon UK managing director, Christopher North, said in a radio interview recently that the company benefits from lower corporate tax is based in Luxembourg, will pay 20% of the value added rate of UK tax.
"The products we sell and ship to customers who pay the UK VAT rate," said North.
But he acknowledged that it only applies to physical products - and books are zero rated. Tax on e-books is the rate fixed by Luxembourg, which has challenged the European orientation. Instead of applying the tax to the national VAT rate, it takes only 3%, on the grounds that, like printed books, electronic publications are of cultural significance.
- This is important because the E-book sales are booming. Worldwide, Amazon now sells 115 to 100 electronic books paperbacks. About 1.3 million e-readers have been purchased in the UK this Christmas, according to the pollster YouGov, 95% were made by Amazon Kindle.
- In the UK, the commercial title of the Amazon bookstore estimated that controls at least 70% of the electronic book market, which is estimated at 500 million pounds in 2012, from £ 150m last year.
- The British government is under pressure to reduce VAT on e-books from scratch, in line with print titles that are sold tax free. "This is the year to get sorted VAT," says deputy director of the library, Philip Jones. "In 2012, he became a number that is given to the Treasury, or not, in the case of the Amazon. "
The biggest
Amazon has used acquisitions to diversify, spending $ 540 million in diapers.com baby supply store, buy shoes eTailer U.S., Zappos, and Woot, a site which offers daily offers on everything from shirts to wine.
Diversification has had spectacular results. Net sales increased 41% to U.S. $ 48 billion in 2011. Amazon now has 164 million active registered account holders. Even his band data hosting business - rent server space to other businesses - is one of the largest in the world

Mies van der Rohe: an architect's reputation rebuilt
The German master was despised by postmodernists, but now - as their Google Doodle shows - it is considered possibly the first architect who has the last word
WhatLudwig Mies van der Rohe have to say about the landscape design today? Probably, "I told you was right." Or at least, "I was not as bad as we thought."
126th birthday today would be the German architect, having lived so long (he continued, in a wheelchair and arthritis at the age of 85 years), and I feel really would have done better than in 1986 - the centenary year. Shares of Mies was at its lowest point ever: Postmodernism was in its pomp and Robert Venturi became famous by Mies van der Rohe's "less is more" given in the "less is a bore." In addition, Mies "international" style helped successfully handling blamed for the creation of urban landscapes soft generic set. Then it was his association with the Nazi shadow, before emigrating to the United States in 1937.
Mies real problem is that it was probably the first architect who has the last word. His lasting achievement was to strip architecture in its purest essence - for "almost nothing", he said. Was well placed to achieve this technical progress in building materials and engineering, but he was philosophically reductionist led to his goal. He believed in the revelation of the underlying "truth" of the world, mainly through pure geometric forms and proportions. It was very successful, of course, especially Americans austere structures, like the Seagram Building and the Farnsworth House. But where do you go from there? You can only play what is already created or lower versions of the same - so Mies cheap imitations that came to characterize the international style
- But times have changed and the evidence of the resurgence of Mies is everywhere. First, it is the reconstruction / restoration of some of his "Greatest Hits". The Barcelona Pavilion, for example - one of the most radical, the influential designs of the modern movement, with its plan to open stream, elegant proportions and quality materials. It was demolished after appearing at the Exposition of Barcelona in 1929 but was thoroughly reconstructed in 1980 - which is alive today in Barcelona. Then there is the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic, which ended the following year. An expansion of the themes developed in Barcelona, ??is another monumental landmark modern - not necessarily a comfortable life, but you can not have everything. The Tugendhat House, too, was recently restored and opened earlier this year.
today, Mies also be scratching your head in the ubiquity of the furniture he designed for these houses. President of FC Barcelona, ??for example, that Mies was never intended for mass production, became the last word in the lobby furniture company. Similarly, the president of Brno, he designed for the Tugendhat House. Both entered mass production in early 1960 and have not stopped selling since - in considerable quantities: a new Barcelona will cost about £ 5000. If you find an original that can essentially retired. Like his buildings, which were so simple that it could not be better - but to make cheap imitations
Mies can view elements of their work in the brain architects such as Rem Koolhaas, UNStudio and MVRDV, but can also smile with satisfaction Shard Renzo Piano, is increasingly in London. By 1921, in response to a competition to design a new office building for the Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, Mies presented a drawing of an angular, prismatic proto-skyscraper with a steel frame and walls entirely of glass - the different facets angles to reflect light changes. It would have been completely impossible to build a design at once, of course, but variations of it have been built since then, at least not in the London Bridge. They are probably already sort of Barcelona chairs for its lobby right now.

EFF Slams Righthaven CEO For Pretending He Can Ignore Court Orders
Gibson's claim that, as CEO, you can avoid responding to court orders addressed to a company. All this is worth reading - these are just a few good songs (which was difficult to reduce it to know which of quote):In addition, Mr. Gibson admits that Righthaven had access to sufficient funds to pay Mr. Mangano for months after admission dried, stating that "[u] p for Mangano became completely incommunicado [in mid-February 2012], Righthaven met all payment obligations to Mangano. "... Righthaven bank statements show that Mr. Mangano was regularly paid in installments of about $ 2475.00 .... The Righthaven money now will save by not paying Mr. Mangano is more than sufficient to pay the transcript noon examination of a debtor. Gibson deliberate decision not to use the funds available for Righthaven not an "impossibility".
Mr. Gibson that he "has not heard of Righthaven Council [Mr. Mangano] since February 2012," and that Mr. Mangano has simply disappeared is similar to that of Mr. DiBiase experience2 to 3 answers. However, it is somewhat surprising given consent to the withdrawal of Righthaven lawyer Dale Cendali last week in the Democratic Republic of Metro v Righthaven, Case No. 10-cv-01356-RLH-GWF (Dkt. 186) ( March 21, 2012), knowing, leaving then only in the hands of Mr. Mangano. Presumably, Mr. Gibson, as director general in charge, would not release this consent Righthaven left without representation.
[....]
Gibson Righthaven lacks funds to order the transcript. Responses to 6, No. 5. Gibson provides no evidence to support its assertion that no funds (highly sought evidence of the Order underlying Feb. 7). To the extent that Mr. Gibson is trying belatedly to assert a defense impossible, seeing is absolutely not "categorically and in detail" why not answer .... Even granting that "Righthaven currently have no income." ... This does not mean that no assets or access to funds. Indeed, Mr. Gibson said that "there is reason to believe that one or more parents not to continue Righthaven capital contributions ...." Mr. Gibson is an oblique reference to himself. As noted above, the State Bank of Righthaven Nevada show that Mr. Gibson has been personally funding for balance Righthaven just above zero.
[....]
Perhaps anticipating the obvious course of action, Gibson said, without citing that "Righthaven can not represent to the Court" and has the "ability to appear in person before the court without a lawyer. ".... This assertion is belied by the fact that Mr. Gibson
