Our first look at Company of Heroes 2 leads to a new place and a dark period in the history of World War II. Get all the initial details here.

To those hoping for a simulated moral system, a la Dawn of War, you're out of luck.

Company of Heroes 2, the sequel to 2006 in the company of Heroes WWII real time strategy game is to take deep icy heart of Mother Russia. Following this campaign will last for the Germans 'initial invasion of the country in 1941 the Soviets' attack on Berlin in 1945. These four long years, claimed the lives of tens of millions of soldiers and civilians, the Soviet army repelled the German invasion through their work and brute force. As game director and amateur historian of Quinn Duffy said: "The Russian army is a million hammers, breaking all the way to Berlin."

We had the opportunity to see the hammer moving at a recent show of hands free Company of Heroes 2. Senior Designer, Relic Entertainment, Jasen Torres, and creative director, Simon Watts, took us through a quick scenario highlighting some of the changes and additions coming in this sequel.

A healthy does of fire can quickly deny your enemies cover within buildings. For those who hope for a simulation system of morality, a dawn of war, you're lucky.

Like any good play ground war on the Eastern Front, the snow is a constant companion. Our first contact was with the game of Russian soldiers painfully to his knees in a battlefield covered with snow. As developers explained, the snow is deep, and that will impact movement. Snow slows, and their units are footprints left for others to discover. These tracks are persistent and serious golfers learn to spot the differences between the tracks of tanks and footprints to better understand what your opponent Fielding - even if they can not see the drives themselves.

Snow

also be used in a more tortuous. In one scene, a group of soldiers were ordered to attack a house. Could be dragged its way through the snow, which fell and exposed, or take the road free of snow at the door of the house. They chose the path - just as the enemy supposed they would - and met with a surprise attack in the form of several well-placed landmines.

See that little stone wall in front of the house? You can jump over that.

Snow is a danger, he is a new ability to quickly navigate the battlefield. Infantry units can now jump over some parts of the roof. No longer forced to run his troops through a narrow gate, or wait for a vehicle to come off because his men could not exceed a height of wall size.

In some situations, who desperately need forward momentum to avoid being labeled a deserter and shot by his own men. One of the first film created with this execution of the order 227. Famous for the phrase "Not one step back!" this decree was intended to keep the Soviets desperate move - no matter the cost. The dark tone is something that Relic takes the campaign for Company of Heroes 2. Does this mean that every time you move your units back a few steps that we will be shot? This is unlikely. The ramifications of the game remain tight, but the construction of an enjoyable game takes precedence.
