Inhabitat's Week in Green: asteroid mining, a Legoland hotel and the Amsterdam Light Festival
Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week's most interesting green developments and clean technologies for us -. Green is the week
Of all the technological advances that we have witnessed in recent years, the emergence of 3D printing technology is one of the most exciting. This week has seen a number of advances in the field of 3D printing, starting Industries plans to develop deep space spatial 3D printers that can produce satellites using materials extracted from asteroids. Dutch architectural design firm Universe has announced plans to build the first home 3D-printed (which has the form of a Moebius strip), and the French sculptor Gael Langevin is the development of a design of a humanoid robot open source that can be done in house with a 3D printer. We learned a handyman inventiveness that has discovered a way to hack a inkjet printer in an old bioprinter. And Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture on Monday, Iris van Herpen started the first 3D-printed dresses flexible.
In renewable energy, this week Inhabitat sent a reporter to Masdar City, once billed as the first zero carbon, zero waste city, to account for some of the energy efficiency of new developments there - including the new LEED Platinum headquarters of Siemens and the largest plant in the world for concentrated solar power. V3solar announced that its spinning cone-shaped photovoltaic cells can produce energy less than two thirds of the actual cost of retail electricity and a report published by the World Wide Fund for Nature found that the energy Solar energy can meet all the needs of global energy. Belgium has announced plans to build an artificial island that is only used for the storage of wind energy, and Duke Energy have recently switched the switch that says the company is the largest system of storage of battery power in western Texas.
