postheadericon House Committee Approves 'Keep Every American's Digital Data for Submission to the Federal Government Without a Warrant Act of 2011'

A couple of weeks we have a ridiculously cynical attempt by some in Congress, wrote (in particular, Reps. Lamar Smith, Bill Flores, Randy Forbes, Dutch Ruppersberger, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz) to sneak through a massive data storage bill by pretending it was an anti-child pornography law. Of course, as we have noted, the bill has almost nothing to stop or prevent child pornography. Instead, it is extremely dangerous retention, increase the privacy of users is added to reduce the risk that data is exposed, increase the value of certain targets hacking ... all because some people want to be the prosecution can cruise through the data. Fortunately, there were at least some Criticism of the retention aspect of the bill, and an attempt to remove the retention pieces from the Bill ... but none of it succeeded, and the bill was agreed the committee, which means it will go to a full House debate. Lamar Smith defended the bill with this ridiculous bit of insanity:
"Every piece of prematurely discarded information could be the footprint of a child predator.... This bill ensures that the online footprints of predators are not erased."
If he really believes that he 'sa fool. Especially those who actually hunt for children probably already know how their "footprints" dress online. Secondly, just because some criminals might use a technology doesn 't that we should all give up our privacy and civil rights. I mean, it would be so easy to say that every piece of discarded prematurely e-mail written by Lamar Smith could be the footprint of a criminal. It could not be. In fact, it's probably isn 't. .. but by the requirement that all of Lamar Smith 's e-mails made public, we make sure that such online tracks are not deleted. See the problem with the logic? Tragically, Smith apparently doesn 't see how he' s sale of privacy is pretty much the whole country.

Kudos, but for those who pushed themselves to this aspect of the bill. Rep. Zoe Lofgren shoved a brilliant suggestion (seriously) on the account of the renaming: '. "S digital data for submission to the federal government without a warrant Act of 2011, you \ \ Keep Every American" is correct. If it's just a kind of "truth in advertising" law for Congressional bills, which require that such invoices are marked as such, would be ....
