postheadericon Sony Vaio Z Ultraportable Has Its Graphics Mojo Hidden in Light Peak-enabled Dock

While still very rare, external graphics card for laptops are nothing new docks. But Sony, the implementation of this idea is much more interesting than anything we've seen. The Japanese electronics behemoth has just announced a new 13-inch subnotebook. Measuring 16.65mm at its thickest point and weighs only 2.64 pounds, has been designed, the VAIO Z, an on-demand to get shot in the arm from its Light Peak Power Media-compatible dock. Hit the jump for more.

The Power Dock Media packs an AMD Radeon HD 6650M (1GB VRAM) graphics card punch, and houses a Blu-ray drive. The dock connects to the ultra-portable with its lone USB 3.0 port, which has happened in all the Light Peak (aka Thunderbolt) magic. While the dock is one of the two USB ports on the Vaio Z retains for itself, makes it nice for him by her three built-in USB ports (USB 3.0) to the user.

Here is a brief overview of the 13-incher specs:

  • Display: high resolution (1600x900) anti-reflective display
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 2.70GHz 2620m (with Turbo Boost up to 3.40GHz)
  • OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM
  • Drive: 256GB SSD flash storage (RAID 0)
  • Optical Drive: Blu-ray Disc drive with DVD-SuperMulti (included with Power Media Dock)
  • Battery Life: Seven hours (14 hours with optional battery)

There is no word if the Vaio Z is in the States, and for how much available. But the ultra-portable, if it be purchased in combination with the dock around $ 3,000 costs in Taiwan. It will have its retail debut next month.
