Ape Escape 3 – games review
(PS3, Sony, cert: 3, available now)
In 1999, the first Ape Escape offered a brilliant introduction to the PlayStation's dualshock controller. Twelve years on, it's back to acquaint PS3 owners with Move, Sony's luminous, lollipop-shaped answer to the Wii-mote. In theory it's a perfect fit, and swinging the Move wand to net errant monkeys works fine, though where the older Ape Escape Play encourages exploration and experimentation, this version limits the player invisible rails. It plays like a Cutesie (and less competent) to take arcade lightgun shooter of yesteryear - it 's also a graveyard sequence ? la House of the Dead , Complete with zombie monkeys move Thriller Style dance movements. This format quickly loses appeal, especially since it 's no two-player mode, and while a smattering of mini-games add some variety, it' s hard to imagine a child to stay interested for long. The cut-price introduction Move it 's not without a certain charm (the monkeypedia, the details of particular chimpanzee' settings for the dance, horticulture or dressing up as a feudal Japanese warlords, is a nice touch). But, despite Simian Samurai, but Ape Escape just feels a little superficial - especially disappointing given the series "track record new hardware set used entertaining.
