postheadericon NY Times Discovers The Coming Legal Battle Over 3D Printing

3D printing for over a decade, including the warning that some companies stopped / industries is likely that a fierce and talk about how they are "stolen" this form of competition. Hopefully enough people realize that it's crazy, but it seems doubtful. Read this article from the New York Times on the legal issues surrounding the 3D printing, and notes that the author seems surprise
which is mostly legal to make a copy of something with a 3D printer:

Suppose
covet a nice cup back into the house of a friend. So take some pictures of her. Software makes the photos on the designs used to print copies of the cup at home in 3-D printer.

Do you break the law by doing this? You might think so, but surprisingly, no ....

When I raised my cup to Mr. Weinberg situation, he replied: "If you take this cup and went to a pottery class and remade, you me ask the same questions about a violation of copyright? No, "The fact that they get the new tools, such as 3-D printers and digital files that facilitate re-create an object, he says, this does not mean that people break the law to use." / Aa>
Of course, this is not the whole story. There may be trademarks / patent issues to be dealt with separately. But most important, given what we have seen in many industries in the past, holders will fight long and hard to say exactly the opposite: that such uses of 3D printing is totally illegal. Hopefully they will fail, but it is almost certainly will be a series of cases of long and drawn out, leaving us to thank you for a judge of the recognition of the above statements are correct.
