Chevron Subpoenas Google, Yahoo & Microsoft To Get Info On Email Accounts Going Back Years
actually wrote about this case a few years ago, when Chevron seeks images that had made a documentary of the people involved in the case, including lawyer, Steven Donziger . Although it seems that the director should have the right to protect the work of journalists to protect their sources, a court has ordered Chevron over. This material was converted to provide information that shows signs of Chevron believes that organized crime to try to influence the court's decision. Here's the New Yorker describes some of what was in the pictures:... In a scene a scientific expert for the plaintiffs said that the extent of groundwater contamination has not been as strong as he thought. "This is Ecuador, okay?" Donziger said. "At the end of the day, if there are thousands of people around the courthouse, you will get what you want." As for science, he said, is "just a bunch of smoke and mirrors and lies."
As Mastro played a series of falls to Judge Kaplan, frankly Donziger was in full screen. Indignation he riffed on the shortcomings of the legal system in Ecuador. "They are all corrupt," the judges said in a clip Ecuadorians. "It is your birthright to be corrupt."
[...] In another scene showed the court Mastro, Donziger cats with partners over dinner in a restaurant. Someone at the table, referring to the popular antipathy against Chevron in Ecuador suggests that if the judge sentenced the Lago Agrio plaintiffs could not be killed.
"It could be," Donziger responds, holding a glass of red wine. "But he thinks so. Which is just as good."
All this, plus some other evidence led Chevron to go after Donziger racketeering. And through this, sent a summons to Google, Microsoft and Yahoo search information on more than 70 email accounts, stating that this information can help to prove that Donziger was "fabricating evidence since the beginning of trial in Ecuador. "CNET said that Chevron believes that, among other things, attorneys Ecuadorians may have been involved in the" blackmail of a judge, ghostwriting expert reports, and even help write the final opinion of the court. "
is important to note that Chevron is not (yet) The content of the e-mail, but a variety of account information - such as the IP address , physical address, telephone number and billing information (if available). The idea seems to be that Chevron believes that some of the addresses that have been tampered with, and this will help to show that. However, some applications clearly seems to be too wide - including going after law professor and blogger Kevin Heller, who was
not
happy. Heller may have the ACLU on behalf of Chevron called about it - they bring down your application. Chevron said it helped prove that Heller belonged to a real person, that's all you want, but Heller is just upset all this, feel significant effects and cooling worry intimidation.
will probably never know why I quoted Chevron. But I know that this is not acceptable in a lawsuit to try to get private information from a blogger and journalist who criticized his tactics. This is not my freedom of the press is the freedom of the press for all bloggers. And Chevron is not, but any part that is acceptable to mention the private information of a blogger. I would be less critical of Greenpeace attempted to quote Glenn Reynolds. With this kind should be exposed and resisted, no matter who they are or used for passive acceptance is simply an invitation to further violence.
Heller is also behind Google, your email provider, nor actively fight on their behalf:
