Congress: Fear Chinese Networking Companies! But Ignore That China Makes All Our Networking Equipment!
Huawei has hit hard, saying the report is "defamation" and "completely unfounded." They also note that appeared to be that policy, calling it "an exercise protectionism China-bashing and evil." In fact, some analysts note that it has all the signs of blatant protectionism, rather than a legitimate concern, with some noting that the Intelligence Committee seems to constantly ask Huawei to prove a negative, and then slam the company for not .
But again and again, throughout the report, the trend emerges: an allegation is made, Huawei denies, without providing evidence deemed sufficient detail to justify the denial and the Committee is impressed.
as noted Written , Huawei has not been convicted, but repeatedly asked to prove his innocence, and being unable to prove with certainty that did nothing for Intelligence, Committee insists that the threat is too great.
is, of course, it is very possible that something bad is going on with Huawei and ZTE. But it does not seem detals in the report that fact proves nothing. Instead, it is all just baseless allegations, followed by Huawei (and ZTE) not provide enough details to convince researchers that they are innocent. Given the history of the Congress of emphasis, it certainly raises questions.
But ... a bigger problem is that all the focus on Huawei may be a bit silly. Yes, it is a Chinese company, but as others have said, basically, all our electronic products are made in China, and the country really wanted to do something questionable, why not sneak there in as the Trojans?
A fundamental flaw of this whole official handshake is that it ignores the fact that many, if not most of the components, except some higher value chips such as Intel, are made in China. Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks in the United States, France Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson in Sweden, all of which use Chinese-made parts and perform at least part of the final assembly of its team in China.
